The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars - John Green John Green, I kind of hate you right now for breaking my heart. But I still love you for creating something for me to love in the first place.

The Night Circus

The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern This is definitely the best book I've read this year. No contest. I was sad when I got to the end.

Beauty Queens

Beauty Queens - Libba Bray Absolutely hilarious.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs - Ransom Riggs I really hope this turns into a series. I did not at all want it to end.

The Oracle of Stamboul: A Novel (P.S.)

The Oracle of Stamboul: A Novel (P.S.) - Michael David Lukas I have to admit I was disappointed. The story was great, but even I thought it kind of fizzled and that there were too many loose ends left at the end of the novel. (And if you know me at all, you know I can ignore plot holes you can drive a truck through. I have a high tolerance for shenanigans in stories.) I don't regret reading it, but I'm not sure I'd read it again.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth

The Forest of Hands and Teeth - Carrie Ryan This book came up a star when I realized it's part of a series. I was thinking that the book itself was enjoyable and entertaining until I got to the end and wondered why the hell Carrie Ryan dropped the ball.

The Other Hand (Flipback Edition)

The Other Hand - Chris Cleave But.... then what happened!? I very much enjoyed it, but I won't give away what happens.

Perfect Fifths: A Novel (Jessica Darling)

Perfect Fifths: A Novel (Jessica Darling) - Megan McCafferty Not my favorite of the 5, but I was so excited to find out what finally happened to Jessica and Marcus. A must read if you have ever found yourself reading any of the Jessica Darling books.

A Separate Country

A Separate Country - Robert Hicks 3.5 Stars
I think I enjoyed this book. I think I would have liked it more had I not read the whole thing in fits and starts. The constant interruptions kind of spoiled it for me, for all that I enjoyed the concept. I'll have to try it again eventually.

Ghosts and Lightning

Ghosts and Lightning - Trevor Byrne I am having the hardest time getting into this book. I have an immense love of Ireland in general, and the subject speaks to me, but the story is just not taking hold of me. Maybe it's the way the dialog is written (with hyphens instead of quotation marks) or maybe it's the dialect, but it feels too jumpy and randomly told for my taste. I'll have to try this one again later, maybe it's just not the right time for me and this book.

The Postmistress

The Postmistress - Sarah Blake So frustrating and so good all at the same time. I loved this book, the storytelling aspect of it was great. I'll definitely be buying it.

Eternal on the Water

Eternal on the Water - Joseph Monninger I wasn't expecting to like this book. I got an advance reader copy but didn't remember signing up to receive this particular book. When I got it, I read the back and thought "Eh, whatever." Today, I ran out of things to read and I picked it back up and read it straight through. I fell in love with the characters and the beautiful descriptions of national parks. Mary's love of life is something one generally hears about in novels of this genre, but it is rarely brought to life with such ease as Monninger manages manages. Mary and Cobb are two halves of one whole and it's an amazing coincidence that they managed to meet each other. Although the overall tone of the novel is light, the content is more somber than I expected. It was beautiful in it's way, with a dignity I could never have imagined from the blurb on the back or on the website. I will read this one again, and will definitely be recommending it the next time someone asks me for a good read.

The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini This book was not what I expected. I usually don't read books that don't have a description on the back. (The paperback version of this book has only quotes from reviews.) But I picked it up anyway because I'd heard only good things about it. I'm glad I did. This book was at times raw and painful to read, but wholly spectacular in its descriptions of Afghanistan. I would definitely read it again.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling Purchase time: 12:20 AM EST
Start time: 12:30 AM EST
Finish time: 6:30 AM EST

Now I'm reading it again.

The Road (Oprah's Book Club)

The Road - Cormac McCarthy I could not get interested in this book. The blurb on the back made me pick up this book, but the writing style made me put it right back down. There are far too many good books in the world to waste time reading things that just can't hold my interest.

Witch & Wizard: The Fire

The Fire - James Patterson, Jill Dembowski I was very disappointed in this. I love James Patterson and have read almost everything he's ever written. The story was decent, but once it got towards the end it got very messy, as if he had a page limit and was trying to fit in the rest of the story before he ran out of paper. I doubt I'll be reading the sequel and I was really looking forward to another fantastic series from Patterson.
